MAUSOLEUM

A Peaceful, Elegant Place to Celebrate Life

The mausoleum at Somerset Hills is filled with warmth and serenity, where all are welcome to gather and share fond memories. With fine Italian marble, polished granite, stained glass, handcrafted mosaics, and a sunlit balcony that overlooks our beautiful grounds, we’ve gone to great lengths to create an elegant, uplifting environment that makes you smile, even as tears are shed.

Families and friends are encouraged to visit the mausoleum and enjoy uninterrupted time of quiet reflection. Visitors often bring flowers, photos, family heirlooms, or the family dog to honor and remember their loved ones. The chapel within our mausoleum seats up to 60 and can be used after church or funeral home services for a final farewell, with the flowers, music, photos, and religious and cultural ceremonies of your choosing. The chapel is available at the time of entombment, while future anniversary and memorial services may be held in the chapel for a small fee.

The mausoleum has crypts and niches for one or two caskets or urns. You may also choose from our outdoor crypts and niches with granite, bronze and mosaic fronts, where you can enjoy bright flowers, shade trees, a soothing urn fountain, and the serenity of nature.

Understanding the Language

Named for the ancient King Mausolus, who was laid to rest in a large, temple-like structure, a mausoleum is a final resting place where the deceased is entombed above the ground in a crypt. A crypt is the burial compartment where the casket is placed. When someone is cremated, the urn is entombed in a niche. Our mausoleum is the ideal choice for those who are uncomfortable with underground burial or cremation and prefer a location protected from the elements.

Customized Medallions

Lettering on the crypt front is provided at no additional charge. You have the option to purchase a customized medallion with a photograph, flower, animal or other image etched in bronze, as well as a military service emblem or religious symbol. All decorations to be affixed to a crypt front must be approved and comply with our rules and regulations, which have been developed to ensure a respectful, welcoming environment.

Veterans Memorial

Somerset Hills is proud to recognize those who have served our country by offering a dedicated section on the south wall of the mausoleum, which faces the American flag and granite monument in the Veterans section of the cemetery. All branches of the armed services are represented with their individual insignias.

In conjunction with Wreaths Across America, we host moving Memorial Day services each year. As part of these ceremonies, wreaths and flags are placed on the graves and the crypt and niche fronts of all veterans. We’re honored to be able to give back to veterans and families who have sacrificed so much.
